CEILIDH + SHUN

August 4th, 2019

Ceilidh and Shun were married at Hatley Castle in Victoria, BC. Since the venue was so grand, the couple wanted the decor to feel organic & casual, with outdoor seating and simple green floral arrangements.

They hand made tassels for lanterns and gave out wooden fans to add Japanese touches to the decor. The castle was Scottish, bringing in both of their cultures.

During the dinner, Ceilidh’s brother made a traditional Scottish toast, where everyone drank from a traditional quaich full of scotch passed around (wouldn’t be COVID friendly today!).

Shun’s mother also gifted her a beautiful traditional kimono that Ceilidh wore over her dress during the reception. After dinner, the couple used a projector to run home videos from when they were kids.

“We met in middle school and started dating in grade 11. Shun proposed to me 12 years later at Disneyland, in front of the castle after the fireworks. He told me he wanted to take some photos of the castle, and after pretending to take a few he dropped to his knee.

At first I tried to pull him up because I felt bad he was on the ground, not really thinking this is how proposals go. I was in so much shock, I’m pretty sure I blacked out for the first half of his proposal. After FaceTiming our parents, we hopped on Space Mountain to capture the moment.”

“I found dress shopping very stressful! I generally wear more casual clothing, so dressing up does not come naturally for me. I went to many boutiques, some with all my bridesmaids, others with family.

Finally, I made the decision to bring Shun, realizing I needed his opinion the most He was helping me search for dresses on Instagram and came across NEWHITE. I loved the simple, modern vibe and instantly booked an appointment.

The day of, we headed that way and realized the studio was right across the street from our apartment! It was the best appointment yet. It felt so good to be meeting directly with the designer. Juliette made me feel so comfortable in her studio. No pressure at all. It was fate that I found my beautiful dress at NEWHITE.”
