BAILEY + SPENCER

October  24th, 2020

Like many other couples, Bailey and Spencer’s plans changed because of COVID. But rather than postpone, they actually moved their date up!

They originally planned to host an intimate destination wedding in July 2021 in Positano, Italy. With all of the uncertainty, the last thing Bailey and Spencer wanted was to constantly stress about lockdowns in various countries and wonder when it would be safe to travel.

So in a matter of 3 months, the couple planned a new wedding in Santa Barbara, California — the city where they met and went to college… back to the place where it all started.

The venue was the bride’s late aunt’s home in the Santa Barbara hills. They wanted to bring Italy to Santa Barbara — so the decor focused on lush florals with roses and colors for fall.

The couple opted for an al fresco dining experience. They enjoyed a 5-course meal and guests sat at a long table to encourage great conversation with the entire party all night long. They had 19 guests — only immediate family and close friends in attendance. *All took covid tests prior to the event*

The evening turned into a big dance party, playing ’70s greats like ABBA and The BeeGees. All of the men even took their shirts off as they were dancing! Everyone realized things got crazy because this was the first time anyone had socialized since the pandemic began. Bailey and Spencer wouldn’t change the day for anything…it was truly perfect.

They also honored Bailey’s late aunt during the ceremony. Her other aunts had said, “If you see a hummingbird at the house, that’s her.” Sure enough, a hummingbird flew right by the couple as they said their vows. It was a very special moment.

Spencer and I met during our freshman year of college at UC Santa Barbara. He was on the water polo team and I was on the track team. We met at a very dumpy college party. Despite it not being the most romantic of locations, it was love at first sight. Only a month into our relationship, he told me he was going to marry me.

We were inseparable. After graduating from college, we did 4 years long distance in separate states as we pursued our careers.

Spencer proposed in Santa Barbara. The plan was to head to lunch at the new Rosewood Hotel in town, and we walked on the beach to get there. Little did I know, my brother was hiding on the beach with a long lens camera. Spencer thought I saw my brother (I didn’t) and the surprise was ruined. He quickly got down on one knee and asked me the million dollar question. Because it was so abrupt, I was in shock. I said “Are you serious?!” about three times. I eventually realized what was happening and said YES!

3 months later our careers allowed us to finally be in the same city again.”

the M.S.P. dress + T. cape

I searched for months online but could never find anything that was modern, unique, timeless, and also delicate. Then I came across an Instagram post featuring NEWHITE! I clicked through and saw the MSP dress with the T cape and it was love at first sight! I quickly made an appointment.

I am pretty picky – so I never in a million years thought the process would be so simple. I shed a few tears with my mom (and Grandma on Facetime all the way from England) during the appointment when I tried it on. We all knew that was the one.

Juliette was amazing. I think the appointment was only 45 minutes! It was an incredibly memorable experience. NEWHITE was the only place I went to. It was one and done!”
